Jess is the Bestest

Dear Jess,

This is simultaneously one of the easiest (because it’s speaking from the heart) and hardest letters to write. I have so much to say, but am also lost for words at the enormity of life.

From the very first round of golf we played together, I knew you were someone special. There was something about you, your warmth, your kindness, your down-to-earth presence, that immediately made me feel at ease. That day, I walked away thinking, I really hope we become friends. And we did. Real friends. The kind that come along once in a lifetime.

I didn’t want to make this letter about me, but the truth is, Jess, you’ve had a massive impact on my life. You’ve brought so much goodness, laughter, and light into my world on and off the course over the space of a short 6-month period. It’s not often you find someone who just gets you, where the connection feels effortless, like your souls were always meant to find each other. That’s what it’s been like with you, a kindred spirit in every sense.

Your compassion, humour, and the way you support others so selflessly are nothing short of extraordinary. You’re the most supportive person I’ve ever met, always lifting others up, listening without judgment, and giving without needing recognition. You’ve helped others (I’m sure MANY) others feel confident, understood, and loved just by being who you are.

We’ve shar so many of the same loves, animals, plants, golf (playing it, watching it, admiring the pros especially those on the KLPGA), and of course, the iconic meme exchanges that throw us back to our clubbing days, even if we didn’t know each other back then. Still, it feels like we did. That’s your magic, you make people feel like they’ve known you forever.

We could sit here and dwell on the fact that we have limited time together, but the truth is, we could have just as easily never met at all. And how heartbreaking would that have been? Because Jess, you are a shining light in this world. You truly are. And I hope-I really hope - that people have told you that throughout your life, because you’re one in a trillion.

Even now, your strength, your grace, and your humour continue to shine in every moment. You’re facing the hardest chapter with the same spirit you’ve always shown, genuine, loving, and fiercely you. I admire you more than I can say.

Thank you for being my friend, for being you. I love you deeply and will carry your light with me always.

With all my love,

Mel – Your crazy golfing buddy!
